1. Where are you located in Alaska?
Good question! Usually our guests fly to Anchorage, rent a car and drive 147 miles along the scenic Seward Highway. Allow approx 3-4 hours drive time from the Anchorage Airport to Tower Rock Lodge. Another option is to fly
Era Aviation - ERA (800) 478-1947 or (907) 248-4429 or
www.flyera.com to the Kenai Airport (approx. 25-minute flight), rent a car and take an easy 15 minute drive to the lodge.
2. What about the bugs?
Despite rumors, mosquitoes are not the Alaska State bird. We are located in a comparatively dry region of the state with less than 2 inches of rainfall a month. However, we advise the use of insect repellant on the fly-out trips. No worries, we have plenty of insect repellant available at the lodge.
3. What should I bring?
We have included a printable packing list for your convenience. We have waders, rain gear, rods, reels, tackle and everything that you will need for your stay at the lodge. We will fit your waders in advance for size and comfort (unless you're in the NBA, we got your size for a good fit)!
4. Upon arrival to Tower Rock Lodge, where do we check in?
Please check into the Dining Hall, the building is located next to the Tower Rock Lodge. The hand scribed log building serves as a meeting/hall and the posting of your daily activities too!
5. What are the daily fish limits?
Kenai & Kasilof Daily Bag Limits. Two Halibut per day, two Silvers per day, Three Reds per day. One King per day; two Kings per year from the Kenai River. We adhere to a catch and release policy for trout on the Kenai River; sometimes our rainbows weigh well over ten pounds...definitely not on the Atkins diet!
6. How do I get my fish home?
Most of our guests check the fish boxes directly with their airline as baggage. The fish fillets are vac-packed and flash-frozen, then packed in a wet lock box that stays frozen for 36 hours. The airline industry will allow two pieces of checked luggage, not to exceed 50 lb per piece. The good news is, your first box of fish processing is included in the package price of your trip! We use Echo Lake Meats for all our fish processing (907) 283-9457 or www.echolakemeats.com. They will freeze wrap, smoke, and ship/FedEx your fish anywhere in the world you want!
7. What is included in the Chechaco and Orvis Packages?
Our packages are a full turn-key and include everything. Just show up with a fishing license and king salmon stamp (if applicable) and let the good times roll. If you forget your toothbrush we have spares. You won't need to bring a thing. You will be able to purchase a fishing license and stamp at almost any convenience store or online with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game by Clicking Here.
8. Do you get many couples?
We haven't had Freddy Couples yet, but we do have a well-manicured 3-hole putting green. Many honeymooners and anniversary celebrators have joined us at Tower Rock Lodge. We even have a honeymoon suite...how sweet it is! We are very much a couple's kind of place and fun for the entire family, and pets are welcome too! The ladies really appreciate our stylish and immaculate cabins!
9. What is the best time to come to Alaska?
Whenever you arrive! We are open for the business of fishing from mid-May until the end of October. You will want to time your vacation to the fish you wish to target. Visit our Planning Your Trip page for some helpful hints and be sure and call us with any questions at (800) 284-3474. We can review a few fishing scenarios and let you choose what fits best for you and your party. Customizing your package is our specialty.
10. How do you cure your salmon eggs?
It depends how sick they are! Actually, we have a secret for our salmon egg bait cure. A carefully guarded secret and as they say, "If I told ya...I'd have ta kill ya"! Come on up and check it out!
